Reyes happy at Highbury: Agent

Jose Antonio Reyes’ agent has dismissed the latest speculation linking the Arsenal striker with a move back to the Primera Liga.

Reports in Spain suggested Jesus Rodriguez de Moya met Highbury vice-chairman David Dein in the last few days with the objective of agreeing a price which the club would accept in order for the international to leave.

However, Moya told BBC Sport: “These reports coming out of Spain are simply not true. Jose Antonio is happy at Arsenal and he has a contract with the club for a very long time to come. This speculation is going to have to stop.”

While happy on the pitch at Highbury, Reyes is believed to be unsettled after failing to adapt to life in England.

He was the victim of a hoax telephone call from a Spanish newspaper earlier in the season in which he admitted he would relish a return to Spain, and in particular to Real Madrid.

They are set for a major overhaul of their playing staff in the summer with another trophy-less season now a distinct possibility, and Reyes remains among their top targets.

Reyes’ former manager at Sevilla, Joaquin Caparros, is one of those convinced the forward will sign for Real.

“Reyes has the profile to play for Real Madrid,” he said. “He has a lot of quality and I see him in the short term at Real Madrid.”

If Arsenal decide to offload the 21-year-old at the end of the season they will look to recoup most of the near £17m (€24.4m) fee they paid Sevilla for his services.
