Toshack had axed Savage from Wales squad

Wales boss John Toshack told Robbie Savage he would not be picked for either of the World Cup qualifiers with Austria later this month before the Blackburn player quit international football.

The absence of Savage’s name from the squad announced today brings to seven the number of players who have retired from international football in the wake of Mark Hughes’ departure and Toshack’s appointment as his successor.
