Waterford injury list mounts
Waterford United could be without three key men going into the start of the season as the Blues’ injury crisis deepens.
Player-manager Alan Reynolds (Achilles), captain John Frost (hamstring) and last season’s top scorer Daryl Murphy (groin) are struggling to be fit for season opener against Longford Town.
Reynolds said: “We don’t have the biggest of squads at the best of times and, at the moment, we can’t fulfil a fixture with all the injuries.
“Things like this balance themselves out over the season – at least I hope they do.”
Several other Waterford stars are struggling with injuries at present at the moment, including Sean Finn and Vinny Sullivan, meaning that the Blues were forced to cancel Monday night’s friendly with Cork City at Turner’s Cross.
“We’ve got so many injuries and a few of the lads are unavailable because of exams so we couldn’t risk going into the game and getting any more injuries,” said Reynolds.
Cork will instead play local side Everton FC. Kick-off is 7:30pm.
