Doherty joins Waterford Utd
Waterford United have signed Kevin Doherty on a season-long loan deal from Shelbourne.
The classy defender is surplus to requirements at Shelbourne this season, but Shels’ €15,000 asking price put off Waterford, Bohemians and Drogheda United signing him permanently.
However, Waterford player-manager Alan Reynolds did persuade the defender to move to Munster on loan as he looks to strengthen his porous defence for the coming season.
“He’s a top player and it’s a coup to get him here. He will really strengthen us at the back this season,” said Reynolds.
Meanwhile, Mark Andrews, who signed from Kilkenny City in December has been released at his own request while John Hayes and Francis Rockett have moved to Cobh Ramblers on loan.
