Shamrock Rovers sign Republic U21 defender
Shamrock Rovers have completed the signing of former Republic of Ireland Under 21 defender Jason Gavin.
Gavin, 25, joins the club on a free transfer having had his contract cancelled by English League One side Bradford by mutual consent.
The defender turned down offers from Drogheda United, Shelbourne and Cork City to join the Hoops on a two-year deal though there is a clause allowing him to return to England should an offer come in.
The former Middlesbrough defender was part of Brian Kerr’s all conquering Irish youth side that won the 1998 European Championships and earned a reputation as a top defender during his time with the Premiership side.
He was called into the Republic of Ireland senior squad by Mick McCarthy though he never made an appearance.
