New deal for Georgian Ger

Rangers utility man Zurab Khizanishvili has signed a two-year contract extension to keep him at Ibrox until 2008.

The 23-year-old Georgian international joined Rangers from Dundee in the summer of 2003.

He has featured in a number of different positions, including centre-back, right-back and midfield, but lost his place in the team earlier in the season.

However, manager Alex McLeish has been able to persuade him that can still play a big part in the club‘s future.

McLeish told rangers.co.uk: “I’m delighted that Zurab is extending his stay with us.

“It’s been difficult for him in recent weeks because of the competition but he understands that.

“It’s important for us to tie down our younger players and I’m sure he will continue to be a good player for us.”
