Ridsdale in talks with a Championship club

Former Leeds chairman Peter Ridsdale was today in talks with an unnamed Coca-Cola Championship club as he looks to get involved in football again.

Ridsdale oversaw Leeds’ progress to the Champions League semi-finals and the upper echelons of the Premiership before the club’s debts forced his exit and saw the club relegated from the top flight.

And after recently severing all ties with Barnsley, where he was chairman following his Elland Road exit, Ridsdale revealed he may be ready to return to the game.

“At the moment I’m biding my time, I enjoy football and I’m getting to games,” he told Barnsley’s official website, www.barnsleyfc.co.uk.

“I still think we did a very good job at Barnsley which was cut short.

“Only yesterday a Championship club rang me and said they had heard me on the radio at the weekend and didn’t realise I’d left Barnsley.

“They said they wanted urgent talks, I’m seeing them today.

“At the moment the options are improving daily.”

Reports suggested Ridsdale was set to join the board at struggling League One club Blackpool after attending their win over MK Dons at the weekend as a guest of chairman Karl Oyston.

But he dismissed the suggestion: “I’m a friend of Karl’s. I went to the game and the next thing I’m being asked if I’m taking over. I’m a bit bemused by it all.

“I was told that Karl wants to sell the club and if the numbers stacked up, who knows? But it’s not happening at the moment. As for director of football, that’s not true.”
