Di Canio in hot water after Derby
Former West Ham striker Paolo Di Canio is set to be punished after his alleged fascist salute in the derby clash between Lazio and Roma.
The Italian Football Federation (FIGC) believed Di Canio’s controversial gesture during his team’s 3-1 victory against the Giallorossi on January 6 was a breach of Article One of the Italian sporting law code.
“Without considering the interpretations of his gesture in terms of its political content, Di Canio’s behaviour is a contrast to the principles of loyalty and correctness that a sportsman has to follow,” said a statement from the FIGC.
The Disciplinary Commission of the Italian football league (Lega Calcio) will now decide on the punishment the player
