Blues bag Yelverton in swap deal with Cobh
Cobh Ramblers have signed Alan Carey and Mark Clifford from Waterford United while Steve Yelverton has gone in the opposite direction to join Alan Reynolds’ team.
The deals bring Cobh’s new signings to five in all for the coming season.
Cobh boss Stephen Henderson’s transfer spree is not over as he plans to bring in one or two more new players before the big kick-off in mid-March.
Alan Carey is a right-back or right sided mid fielder who played with Cork City before he moved to the Blues last year while central mid fielder Mark Clifford is a familiar name at St Colman’s Park having played with the claret-and-blues before his move to Waterford.
“They will bring a wealth of experience to what is a young and ambitious team and we want to give promotion a right crack this year,” said Henderson.
Cobh have also signed up goalkeepers Anthony Fennelly and James McCarthy from (Cork) Leeds, midfielder Anthony Fenton from Maymount Celtic as well as ex-Cork City players David O’Sullivan and Ken Kiely.
Attempts to sign Declan McGregor and Ray O’Leary from Blarney United have failed.
Ramblers, who have appointed young left-back John Meade as new club captain, will be back in pre-season training on January 27 and they have lined-up attractive friendlies against Waterford and Shelbourne for Cobh.
They will play the Blues on February 25 with the Shels’ game provisionally fixed for either March 5 or 12.
Shels’ have plans to bring in an English team and that will govern the date of the Cobh game.
