Wenger ready to elevate Cole status

Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger believes Ashley Cole’s new contract will elevate him into the ‘top player’ category.

Speculation has linked Spanish giants Real Madrid with a move for the England left-back but Cole, who has more than two years left on his current deal, is keen to finalise an extension which will keep him at Highbury for the foreseeable future.
