Djorkaeff to quit Rovers in New Year
Youri Djorkaeff will leave Blackburn in the new year after the club announced they would not be extending his contract.
The French World Cup winner was Mark Hughes’ first signing as Rovers boss when he arrived as a free agent in late September, having been released by Bolton.
He signed initially on a short-term contract until the end of December but will now leave Ewood Park “by mutual agreement” when that deal expires.
The 36-year-old striker made three Premiership appearances for Rovers in October before suffering a hamstring injury in training that has kept him sidelined since.
A statement from the club on their official website, www.rovers.co.uk, said: “Rovers today confirmed that Youri Djorkaeff’s stay will not be extended.
“It was agreed he would stay until the end of December and the situation would then be reviewed. It has been decided by mutual agreement not to extend his spell.”
