Kevin Keegan faces a selection dilemma over whether to restore Nicolas Anelka to his Manchester City starting line-up for tomorrow’s trip to Bolton.

Anelka was on the bench for Saturday’s defeat to Tottenham but after watching Robbie Fowler and Jon Macken drawing a blank, Keegan could be tempted to put his £13m record-signing back into his side.

Steve McManaman (Achilles) and Ben Thatcher (ankle) are definitely out, while Keegan has also revealed Claudio Reyna (groin) is not expected to be back in action for at least another two months.

Provisional squad: James, Waterreus, Onuoha, Mills, Distin, Sommeil, Dunne, Bosvelt, Flood, D’Laryea, S Wright-Phillips, Barton, Sibierski, Fowler, Jordan, Macken, Anelka, B Wright-Phillips.
