Savage deserves ban - Winter

Former top referee Jeff Winter wants Birmingham midfielder Robbie Savage to be banned for three matches for a “sly” attack on Olof Mellberg.

Savage was caught on camera digging his fingers into Villa defender Mellberg’s left eye during Sunday’s Birmingham derby.

Winter told The Sun: “It was sly and not the act of a man.

“Savage got him with a sly one when he knew there could be no retribution from the other player.

“It is clearly an act of violent conduct and deserves a three-match ban.”
