Morientes keen on Monaco switch

Real Madrid striker Fernando Morientes, reportedly a January transfer target for Liverpool, wants to join Monaco on a permanent basis.

The 28-year-old Spanish international spent last season on loan with the Principality club and helped them reach the Champions League final.

Morientes said: “Going back to Monaco would certainly be the best option. I know the club, the way it works, I like it and I have great memories there.”

He added: “I don’t think that (a loan move) would be good for me, nor for Real Madrid or the club I am going to.”
