Redknapp: Saint or sinner?
Rumours are rife that Harry Redknapp is about to be appointed as Southampton manager – less than a month after quitting south-coast rivals Portsmouth.
The Saints’ official website last night claimed the club was “remaining tight-lipped” over media reports that a move to replace head coach Steve Wigley is imminent.
Chairman Rupert Lowe reportedly “declined to comment when asked about the rumours” at a youth team game against QPR at Loftus Road.
However, the report on www.saintsfc.co.uk accepts this has “merely fuelled the speculation that Saints are poised to make a change ahead of Saturday’s home game against Middlesbrough”.
Redknapp himself yesterday refused to rule out a controversial switch to St Mary’s Stadium.
When asked whether such a move would upset his former employers, Redknapp told Sky Sports News: “I’m not manager of Portsmouth any more.
“I wish them every success for the future, but this is football, I am a football man and I will have to just wait and see if anything comes up.”
