Wycombe midfielder Keith Ryan has been appointed caretaker player-manager after assistant boss Peter Cawley left the club at the weekend.

Cawley took charge of Wanderers’ 1-0 FA Cup first-round victory against non-league Coalville on Saturday following Tony Adams’ resignation earlier in the week.

But Cawley was relieved of his duties after the game, while chief scout Alan Fogarty also resigned on the same day.

A statement on the club’s official website read: “The football club are arriving at a position that whoever becomes the next manager will have a clean sheet to select his staff.”

Ryan will take the role until a permanent replacement is found, with youth-team manager Gary Smith acting as his assistant.
