Wolves step up search for new boss

Wolves have drawn up their shortlist as they step up the search to find a new manager.

Dave Jones was sacked 11 days ago following the Black Country club’s poor start to the Coca-Cola Championship season and chief executive Jez Moxey today announced they were preparing to begin interviews for the post.

“Of the large number of applications we received, around 30 were from suitably qualified applicants,” he told the club’s official website, www.wolves.co.uk.

“We have spent some time going though them and selecting names for the shortlist, who we will interview shortly.”

Gary Megson, Micky Adams, Bobby Robson, Terry Butcher, John Gregory, Carlos Calvalhal - the coach of Portuguese club Belenenses - and former Romania boss Victor Piturca have been linked with the post.

“There have been lots of discussions behind the scenes as this is a vital appointment and we want to be sure we select the right person,” Moxey added.

“There are lots of good candidates applying – which doesn’t surprise us. The post of manager at Wolverhampton Wanderers is an excellent job and will be highly sought after.”
