Cork move within three of Shels in five-goal thriller
Cork City 3 Drogheda United 2
Cork twice came from behind to move to within three points of leaders Shelbourne after this five goal thriller.
It began badly for Cork who were a man and a goal down within four minutes to set the tone for a gripping match.
Defender Alan Bennett was shown a straight red card for a professional foul on Declan O’Brien and Andy Myler scored directly from the free-kick.
Skipper Dan Murray headed Cork level on 12 minutes before a madcap passage of play saw O’Brien restore Drogheda’s lead and then get himself sent off for an off-the-ball tussle with George O’Callaghan on 23 minutes.
John O’Flynn equalised for Cork ten minutes before the break.
Liam Kearney then got what proved the winner three minutes into the second half.
