Baker on way back for Shels

Shelbourne has announced that Richie Baker will rejoin the club next year following a season in the United States with New England Revolution.

The Shelbourne website claims Baker, 24, has signed a three-year deal with the current league leaders.

Midfielder Baker joined the Boston-based Revolution at the start of the Major League Soccer season in March.

Managed by former Liverpool star Steve Nicol, the Revs have reached the MLS Eastern Conference final and will play DC United in Washington on Saturday night but Baker has struggled to hold down a starting place and has spent this play-off portion of the league season warming the bench.

When he left Ireland, he said he had given Pat Fenlon first refusal on his signature whenever he decided to return home and it appears the Shels boss has exercised that option.
