Roddy Collins today walked out on Dublin City to take over as manager of Shamrock Rovers.

Dubliner Collins took over as boss of the eircom League's basement team from John Gill earlier this year. In recent days he had been linked with various jobs in England's lower leagues.

Collins moves to Shamrock Rovers after the club received a financial boost earlier this week with news of the investment plans of a Dublin businessman. Rovers are just one place above Dublin City in the eircom League.

Rovers say current manager Noel Synott will stay with the club in a coaching capacity.

Meanwhile the Vikings, who now look doomed to relegation, reacted to Collins' exit by appointing Dermot Keely to the post of caretaker manager until the end of the season.

Dublin City play Drogheda United in the eircom League tonight.
