Derry add to Waterford's blues
Derry City 1 Waterford United 0
Mark McChrystal put a big dent in Waterford’s hopes of qualifying for Europe with the only goal of the game at the Brandywell.
Derry took a grip on the match from the start and were deservedly ahead on 21 minutes for what proved the only goal of the game.
Damien Brennan had had a header cleared off the line by Kevin Waters three minutes earlier. But fellow defender McChrystal made no mistake when powerfully heading home another Derry corner to put Derry in front.
Blues' keeper Packie Holden made super stops from Gary Beckett, Eddie McCallion and Conor O’Grady to keep Derry out in the second half.
