Celtic were the benefactors of some good fortune at Parkhead tonight to go in at the break ahead in their vital Champions League Group F match.

Nobody seemed to know why referee French referee Eric Poulat penalised Shakhtar Donetsk goalkeeper Jan Lastuvka, awarding Celtic a free-kick just inside the area.

But Alan Thompson took advantage of that by slamming home Stilian Petrov’s ball before the visitors had skipper Anatoliy Tymoschuk red-carded just before the interval as he scathed through Henri Camara.
