The Football Association were today holding a second round of interviews with candidates for the vacant chief executive’s role after Trevor Birch withdrew his application for the post.

Birch, the former Chelsea, Leeds and Everton chief executive, was one of seven candidates interviewed yesterday by the FA’s four-man selection sub-committee, with a further three due to be seen today.
