Murphy put Blues in front on 16 minutes when racing through onto Kenny Coleman’s chip to round Noel Mooney and fire home.

Murphy then turned provider for the second goal on 37 minutes, crossing for David Mulcahy to shoot past Mooney.

Rovers finished with 10 men when midfielder Mark O’Brien was sent off on 80 minutes for a second booking inside as many minutes.

Blues might have had a thrid goal two minutes from time but Kevin O'Brien's weak penalty was parried away by Mooney after he had tripped Murphy.
