Shamrock Rovers have welcomed a new major shareholder to the board, the club has announced.

Businessman Conor Clarkson is reported to have injected more than €9m into the Hoops, who have been embroiled in a dispute over player payments this season.

They have also been without a ground since the sale of their stadium in Milltown in 1987.

Rovers chairman Tony Maguire said in a statement on the club’s website: "This is a very significant day for the club as it paves the way for the ultimate completion of the stadium facility in Tallaght.

"Further announcements will follow over the next few weeks.”
