Bayern make their move

Bayern Munich served notice of their title ambitions when they beat leaders Wolfsburg 2-0 to move within a point of the top of the Bundesliga.

The Bavarian giants have made a slow start to the season by their high standards but two goals from Claudio Pizarro in the first half were enough to see them surge up to third place and within a point of Wolfsburg.

Stuttgart will now take over at the top if they win Wednesday evening’s match at home to champions Werder Bremen.

Elsewhere, giant striker Jan Koller gave ailing Borussia Dortmund the much-needed fillip of a 1-0 win at Hertha Berlin.

Hannover moved up to fourth with an impressive 3-1 win at home to Kaiserslautern, their fourth success on the trot.

Ioannis Amanatidis gave Lautern the lead but an equaliser from Michael Tarnat and two second-half goals from Jiri Stajner gave the points to Hannover.

Bochum celebrated the 1000th match of their Bundesliga history with a 3-0 win at the expense of 10-man Borussia Monchengladbach.

Christoph Preuss started the rout and the sending-off of Jeff Strasser further complicated the task for Borussia.

Late goals from Dariusz Wosz and Peter Madsen sealed the win.
