Megson to quit next summer - report

Gary Megson is set to quit West Brom when his current contract runs out, according to a Birmingham radio station.

Capital Gold presenter Tom Ross, a close confidante of Megson, said the Albion manager had intimated he would be parting company with the club next summer.

Ross told listeners: “I spoke with Gary Megson last night and he said he was definitely leaving the club at the end of his contract.”

Megson has performed wonders in his four-and-a-half years at the club, taking them from 21st in the old First Division to twice gaining promotion to the Premiership.

But his position has come under scrutiny with fans calling for him to quit in radio phone-ins since Saturday’s 3-0 defeat at fellow strugglers Crystal Palace.

Megson admitted he had been concerned by the lack of effort shown by his players in training in the build-up to the game.

He has also experienced a stormy relationship with chairman Jeremy Peace who has so far declined to offer Megson a new contract.

There was speculation Megson was to be sacked early this season before they collected four points from two games thanks to a win over Bolton and a draw with Norwich.
