Longford retain FAI Cup
Longford Town 2 Waterford United 1
Longford Town retained their FAI Carlsberg Cup in dramatic fashion with Paul Keegan the supersub hero.
A dominant Blues looked set for a deserved first cup win since 1980 when Willie Bruton shot them in front on 62 minutes after Daryl Murphy had flicked on John Frost’s long ball.
But Town threw everything at Blues late on and were rewarded with an 86th minute equaliser.
Eric Lavine laid the ball into the path of Waterford-born Alan Kirby who blasted home from the edge of the area.
Lavine then also played a vital role just over a minute later, laying the ball off for Keegan to sidefoot home a glorious winner - his first goal for the club.
