Cork City and Waterford United seeking edge

The eircom League premier division’s two form teams meet tonight in the final Munster derby of the season when Cork City travel up the N25 to play Waterford United at the RSC (7.30pm).

Both clubs go into the game on the back of three straight wins as they bid to finish the campaign with a push for at least an InterToto Cup spot next season.

City hold the edge in the table, occupying fourth place with a two-point advantage over the Blues and a game in hand.

Pat Dolan’s side has also kept a clean sheet in each of the last three matches and they welcome back left-back Danny Murphy to the ranks after he missed the 2-0 win over Longford Town four days ago through suspension.

Colin O’Brien is still missing from the City midfield as he recovers from a dislocated shoulder which means George O’Callaghan should retain his place in the centre alongside Joe Gamble.

FA Ireland Cup finalists Waterford, managed by former City midfielder Alan Reynolds, could have Pat Purcell back in the middle of defence as he nears full fitness following a foot injury but Wayne Fitzgerald is a doubtful starter.
