Yorath: Flynn for Wales job

Former Wales boss Terry Yorath expects to see Brian Flynn installed as the new national team chief after Mark Hughes bows out this week.

Yorath would rather see John Toshack given the job, but he feels that the Football Association of Wales will plump for Flynn, a former Wrexham and Swansea manager, with captain Gary Speed working alongside him.

“I think it’ll be Brian Flynn,” said Yorath, adding that Speed would be his likely assistant.

“I think that would be the ticket. John Toshack would be my choice because he’s got the experience of being a manager in Europe, but he had his chance once and walked away from it.

“If you said to me: ‘What would your choice be?’ I’d say: ‘John Toshack’, but I think it’ll be Brian Flynn.”

Hughes is primed to give his full attention to Blackburn following Wednesday’s group six home match against Poland at the Millennium Stadium, having been appointed at Ewood Park in September.

The next match for Wales, after Poland, will be against Austria on March 26 next year.
