Worthington set for transfer boost

Norwich boss Nigel Worthington is set to be handed around £1.2m (€1.7m) to strengthen his squad during the January transfer window after shareholders answered an appeal not to redeem their options.

Holders of the 17,134 B Preference Shares in the Norfolk club, currently bottom of the Barclays Premiership table, are entitled to cash them in by October 1 each season the Canaries are in the top flight.

However, the majority chose to follow the lead of the board and not make the request, which has freed up extra funds to put into the playing squad.

Norwich chairman Roger Munby told the club’s official website, www.canaries.co.uk: “Once again our supporters have delivered.

“They have created an additional budget of £1.2m (€1.7m) which Nigel can use in the January or summer transfer window.

“This is totally in keeping with the level of support the club has received so far this season. Home and away the fans have been a real credit and we give them our thanks for that. They have once again rallied round and answered our call.”
