Stuttgart go top in Germany

Unbeaten Stuttgart moved to the top of the Bundesliga with a 2-0 victory over Hamburg.

Silvio Meissner opened the scoring after 16 minutes and substitute Imre Szabics put the result beyond doubt on the stroke of full-time to move Mattias Sammer’s men a point clear of the chasing pack.

Wolfsburg stormed into second spot in the table after beating Schalke 3-0 at the VfL Stadion while Bayer Leverkusen, who began the day as leaders, saw their unbeaten start to the season ended with a 2-0 defeat at Mainz.

Bayern Munich did the bare minimum to see off the challenge of Arminia Bielefeld with Roy Makaay scoring in a 1-0 win at the Olympic Stadium.
