Waterford United defender Pat Purcell has been ruled out of action after damaging ankle ligaments last night.

Purcell, 24, who joined the Blues from Limerick earlier this year, suffered the injury in the first-half of the FAI Cup quarter-final with Munster rivals Rockmount at the RSC.

He was replaced by player-manager Alan Reynolds in the 35th minute as Waterford struggled to a 2-2 draw with the FAI Intermediate Cup holders from Cork.

It is not clear how long Purcell will be sidelined.
