Rockmount come close to sensational win

Willie Bruton rescued Blues with a late equaliser to deprive Rockmount of a sensational win.

Bruton struck eight minutes from time to scoop in the rebound after keeper Derek Slattery could only parry Daryl Murphy’s shot.

Murphy had earlier got Blues back into the match when his 73rd minute cross was deflected into his own goal by Paul O’Brien.

Rock ran up a remarkable 2-0 lead within six minutes of the second half.

Shane Hennessy turned in the first from Stefan Hurley’s cross on 48 minutes.

Hennessy then turned provider with a super cross for skipper Pat Keane, brother of Roy, to head a stunning second.

Keane then had a goal disallowed for pushing deep in stoppage time.
