Report: Derry avoid Kildare replay

Eddie McCallion deprived Kildare of a replay with an 89th-minute winner to put Derry into the semi-finals of the FAI Cup.

A Ciarán Martyn shot was parried clear by the heroic John Connolly, but the ball broke to McCallion on the edge of the area and he drilled a low shot to the net to spare Derry a trip to Newbridge on Monday night.

Darren McKenna chipped an early chance wide for County, but it was Derry who created the best openings.

Alan Murphy rattled the County bar on 33 minutes before Sean Hargan headed wide and Martyn brought a brilliant stop from Connolly.

Shay Zeller did have a second-half chance for County, but sliced wide on the hour.
