Benitez wanted Woodgate

Liverpool boss Rafael Benitez has admitted he wanted to sign Jonathan Woodgate this season – but could not afford the defender.

Real Madrid paid Newcastle more than £13m (€19.1m) and Benitez admitted it was too expensive to bring him to Anfield.
