Jakobsson seals Saints switch

Southampton have today confirmed the signing of Sweden international Andreas Jakobsson on a two-year deal.

The 31-year-old has signed from Brondby for a fee of around £1m (€1.47m) and becomes head coach Steve Wigley’s first signing.

The centre-back joins his international team-mates Michael Svensson, Anders Svensson and Mikael Nilsson at St Mary’s.

Wigley told the official club website www.saintsfc.co.uk: “Our scouts have been out and watched him several times and they have recommended him and I am delighted he is coming in.

“He is an experienced, quality player who is a leader and he will give us vital extra cover at the back.

“With Michael Svensson being injured we are a bit short of experience if Claus Lundekvam was to get hurt.”
