Spurs land Davenport
Tottenham have confirmed the signing of Coventry’s highly-rated young defender Calum Davenport for £1.1m.
The fee for the central defender may rise to £3m depending on appearances.
The England Under-21 international, the 11th signing since David Pleat’s departure at the end of last season, had been linked with a move to White Hart Lane for some time and completes the move just over 24 hours before the transfer deadline.
Spurs sporting director Frank Arnesen told the club’s website, www.spurs.co.uk: “He’s a great talent with special qualities, a very promising central defender who possesses a good mentality and who will further enhance our growing squad.
“He illustrates our current attitude at Tottenham, seeking our players for now and players for the future.”
