Goals from Sean Dillon and Sean Prunty meant the eircom League Cup didn’t have far to travel for its resting place for the next 12 months as Longford avenged last season’s final defeat.

Town started brightly and took a fourth-minute lead.

Vinny Perth’s superb cross field ball found Dillon in plenty of space and the left-back ran on, cut inside to beat Matt Gregg with a low shot from 22 yards.

Bohs pressed for much of the second half, but a mistake by Colin Hawkins gifted Prunty the ball on 81 minutes and the winger ran through to confidently fire past Gregg.

Bobby Ryan pulled a goal back four minutes later with Town keeper Mick Dempsey then having to make good stops from Dave Morrison and Glen Crowe before the cup was won.
