Drogs' Lacey tests positive but keeps job

Drogheda United has denied media reports they have terminated the contract of midfielder Glenn Lacey.

The eircom League premier division leaders confirmed Lacey was the player reported to have tested positive for a banned substance but in a statement added: “Contrary to what has been reported in this morning's press, Glenn has not had his contract terminated by the club.”

Lacey is the second eircom League player in 11 months to have returned a positive in a random drugs test.

Shamrock Rovers goalkeeper Barry Ryan was banned for 15 months last September, reduced to nine months on appeal, after traces of a banned recreational drug were found in his test sample.

Having completed his suspension, Ryan signed for Dublin City last month.
