Teams: Bolton v Charlton
Bolton and Charlton may have made 13 new signings between them during the summer, but only three were handed full debuts for this season-opening clash at the Reebok Stadium.
Bolton boss Sam Allardyce paraded in the starting line-up Julio Cesar, a free transfer from Real Madrid, and Gary Speed, a £750,000 capture from Newcastle.
Of Allardyce’s five other new boys, only Les Ferdinand and Tal Ben Haim made it onto the bench, with no room for the likes of Michael Bridges and Fernando Hierro.
Charlton boss Alan Curbishley handed a debut to former Liverpool star Danny Murphy, signed this week from Liverpool, while the bench was all new faces in Francis Jeffers, Talal El Karkouri, Stephan Andersen, Dennis Rommedahl and Bryan Hughes.
