City consider complaint over Anelka approach

Furious Manchester City officials are to consider reporting Champions League finalists Monaco to UEFA over an alleged illegal approach to record signing Nicolas Anelka.

Monaco coach Didier Deschamps admitted earlier this week that he had spoken to Anelka and was interested in bringing the exiled French international back home.

The news has annoyed City, who insist Anelka is going nowhere, even though manager Kevin Keegan has no other way of getting the money he needs to reinforce a squad he feels is inadequate for the rigours of a Premiership campaign.

Although the odds are that the Blues will eventually let the matter pass, communications officer Paul Tyrrell confirmed the matter would be discussed at a board meeting early next week and that the club may yet ask UEFA to get involved.

“Clearly there has been an illegal approach if we are to believe what was in the newspaper,” said Tyrrell.

“We will be looking closely at what Didier Deschamps says in the next few days.”
