Embattled chairman Bill Kenwright has confirmed Everton have targeted Keith Wyness to become the club’s new chief executive.

The 47-year-old vacated the same position at Aberdeen last weekend after almost three years in the job.

But, if he is appointed by the Blues, Wyness is walking into a power struggle between Kenwright and director Paul Gregg.

However, the Everton chief insists Wyness has impressed in meetings with the Goodison Park hierarchy.

Kenwright said: “The three directors have spent time with Keith Wyness and he is a candidate for the chief executive’s job.”

Wyness would replace Trevor Birch, who quit the post after just six weeks in the job.
