Eircom League chairman Declan Ó Luanaigh has congratulated Shelbourne on reaching the third qualifying round of the UEFA Champions League following their 2-0 victory over Hajduk Split (4-3 agg).

"Shelbourne's fantastic achievement in reaching the third qualifying round of the Champions League marks new territory for the eircom League and is a credit to chief executive Ollie Byrne, manager Pat Fenlon, the players and everyone connected with the club," he said.

"Not only have they equalled Dundalk's and Cork City's record of progressing through two rounds of a European competition, they have shown that the eircom League champions can successfully compete with teams from other European leagues.

"What's more, tonight's victory will improve the eircom League's UEFA co-efficient which will hopefully help pave the way for future European success for eircom League clubs."
