Death charge footballer arrives at court

West Brom striker Lee Hughes arrived at court today to stand trial for causing death by dangerous driving.

The 28-year-old made no comment as he entered Coventry Crown Court where he faces an allegation that he killed 56-year-old Douglas Graham, who was a rear-seat passenger in a car which was in collision with the forward’s silver Mercedes in November last year.

Hughes has previously denied the allegation at an earlier court appearance.

He is also charged with failing to stop after an accident, though this charge is expected to be dealt with at the end of his trial.

Father-of-four Mr Graham, of Eastern Green, Coventry, was travelling in a Renault Megane when the collision occurred on the outskirts of the city on November 23.

His wife suffered a broken pelvis while another passenger sustained bruising.
