Robben and Mutu left on sidelines

Chelsea are to rest Dutch winger Arjen Robben and Romanian striker Adrian Mutu for their game against AC Milan.

The Blues’ final match in the ChampionsWorld Series, which kicks off in the early hours of tomorrow morning UK time, will not feature either player as Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho adopts a cautious approach with the first day of the Barclays Premiership season less than a fortnight away.

Robben has a stiff foot after a challenge by Roma’s Olivier Dacourt in the match against the Serie A side last week.

It had been feared the damage was more severe but X-rays suggest he will be okay for the start of the season.

Mutu also has a groin injury and the pair are doing rehabilitation work in Philadelphia.

The players held a double training session on Saturday under the watchful eyes of Mourinho, and trained at the Lincoln Financial Field ground, where the game will be played, yesterday evening.
