Ajax set to sell Trabelsi to Gunners

Ajax have confirmed newspaper reports which suggest full-back Hatem Trabelsi is on the verge of a move to Arsenal.

Yesterday AD Sportwereld claimed the Dutch and English champions had agreed a fee for the Tunisian defender and that the player only had to undergo a medical before completing the switch to Highbury.

“It is nice that this case has been dealt with,” Ajax director Arie van Eijden told the newspaper.

“Just a few minor details must be handled before Arsenal will declare it official. We have had an agreement with Arsenal for several days but we had to wait until Arsenal and the player reached an agreement.”

Van Eijden’s words were confirmed by Ajax spokeswoman Pauline Seamers, who told said: “The comments are something of a surprise as we don’t normally discuss these kind of matters until everything is signed. But the comments in Sportwereld are correct.”

Ajax are set to receive around £4million for 27-year-old Trabelsi, who joined the Amsterdammers from CS Sfaxien in 2001.

The player has fallen out with Ajax coach Ronald Koeman in recent months following a protracted contract wrangle.

And Koeman is not sorry to see him go.

The former Dutch international said: “It’s good with me, I did not want to see him anymore at Ajax anyway.”
