Everton striker Wayne Rooney has been given the go-ahead to resume light training after his latest visit to a specialist.

The 18-year-old England forward fractured his fifth metatarsal bone in his foot during the Euro 2004 quarter-final against Portugal but now appears to be on the road to recovery.

“Wayne visited a consultant on Thursday afternoon and he was very happy with his progress,” Everton’s head physio Mick Rathbone told the club’s official website, www.evertonfc.com.

“He can now start swimming and doing some bike work and we’ll X-ray him in another two weeks’ time.”
