Dundalk will feel they have blown their chance of getting through to the third round of the FAI Carlsberg Cup after failing to make their dominance pay at Oriel Park.

The sides meet in a replay at United Park on Monday night.

Dundalk had the better of the first half with Drogheda’s Jermaine Sandvliet clearing off the line from Ciaran Quinn before the home side missed a penalty on 21 minutes.

Sandvliet was penalised for a handball on the line, but Drogheda keeper Gary Rogers saved Garry Haylock’s spot kick.

Declan O’Brien hit the bar for Drogheda on the hour before Drogheda wasted another glorious chance ten minutes from time.

Brendan Kelly picked out Quinn six yards out but he missed a sitter.
