Ziegler wins his Spurs

Tottenham are to sign Grasshoppers Zurich left-back Reto Ziegler in January.

Ziegler, who can also play in midfield, is currently with the Switzerland Under-19s squad having played every game in their run to the semi-finals of the European Championship.

Spurs sporting director Frank Arnesen told the London club’s website, www.spurs.co.uk: ““Reto Ziegler is a very young player who has played at the highest level in Switzerland and has been in the Grassshopper first team for a season and a half even though he is only 18.

“A lot of big European clubs tried to sign him. I am delighted we could. He loves English football and believes Tottenham are the right club to bring him along further.

“He is a left-back with the capacity to play midfield. He holds a lot of promise and I look forward to him joining us on January 1.”

The deal remains subject to formalities being completed.
